TO FARAWAY TIMES 京都 [KYOTO 111217]

14 May

The International Office of Mie University organised a Kyoto trip for us exchange students in December. We went to the 映画村 [eigamura, film village], the famous 金閣寺 (kinkakuji, Temple of the Golden Pavilion) and had the chance to print t-shirts using an ancient Japanese printing technique.
The trip was great fun, I like coach trips ♥

RANDOM FANDOM

“I tell you what I don’t get: Why is it that when someone is gay they have to say ‘I’m coming out of the closet.’ We don’t say the word closet in any other situation, do we? Nobody says the word closet. But I think I know the reason. If somebody came up to you and said “I’ve come out of the wardrobe”, you’d be like “Oh my god, are you from Narnia?” “No. No, I’m, gay.” “Have you told Aslan? He’s gonna be cross with you~.”

Russel Howard in Right Here, Right Now

Or perhaps in Slytherin
You’ll make your real friends,
Those cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.

DEAD ON YOU ARE!

8 May

It is Southern Vampire Mystery Month, at least it is for me. May means a new Sookie Stackhouse adventure and I cannot wait to get my hands on it. (Unfortunately it takes a while for Amazon Japan.) Still I am psyched up about it, very much so. (So many feelings! I worry about some things and hope some other ventures will be further explored and… can I have some lovely Pam moments? And Sam, I miss Sam :))

While looking for Deadlocked a while back, I noticed the beautiful cover art by 多田由美 (Tada Yumi). I am so enamoured with the covers that I wanted to share them.
Ah, Sookie is so lovely. And while the American covers always seem funny and rather light-hearted (colourful & glittery), even though the content is not, the Japanese covers seem melancholy. I like both very much.

I also bought the first in the series in Japanese for myself. (So cheap on Amazon Marketplace, also extremely fast and in better quality that I’d have imagined.

POETIC JUSTICE

7 May

Having been sick for almost two weeks (and still not 100% restored to health), I feel wanting of much except pop culture. Since I watched a lot of films, series and anime, I could tie some loose fandom ends that pleased me a lot. (Though there is still some challenge reporting to do, I know.) Rummaging through the folders on my computer I found two poems I wanted to share for a while, but never found the right time to do it and not is as good a time as any, so please enjoy ♥

Melinda Sue Pacho I Did Not Die.

Do not stand at my grave and forever weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn’s rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and forever cry.
I am not there. I did not die.

Jack Gilbert How to love the dead

she lives, the bird says, and means nothing
silly. She is dead and available,
the fox says, knowing about the spirits.
not the picture of the funeral,
not the obect of grieving. She is dead
and you can have that, he says. If you can
love without politeness or delicacy
the fox says, love her with your wolf heart,
as the dead are to be desired.
Not the way long marriages are,
nothing happening again and again,
Not in the woods or in the fields.
Not in the cities. The painful love of being
permanently unhoused. not color, but the stain.
